Back in September, Agroknow organized an exciting panel discussion titled “Retailers' Guide to Food Safety: Optimizing Risk Assessment and HACCP Planning for Emerging Risks to your PL Products” on how food & beverage retail companies can benefit from new technologies in order to streamline their product food safety risk assessment & monitoring processes, including HACCP plans, by focusing on identifying new & emerging risks.

Giannis Stoitsis, CTO of Agroknow, joined by Georgia Briseniou, Event Manager at Agroknow, discussed about the overarching challenge of facing unexpected risks, the best practices in assessing risk, the challenges in implementing these processes as well as ways that these can be enhanced through the application of AI and formulate informed risk prevention strategies

The Challenge

For food and beverage retailers, acting as the final safeguard before products reach consumers, ensuring product safety and quality is crucial. With frequent recalls, supply chain disruptions leading to potential shortages, and climate change impacting crop yields, retailers must stay constantly alert to their global supply chains. Yet, many food safety and quality teams are overwhelmed by the sheer volume of data, ingredients, and suppliers they need to monitor and integrate into their HACCP plans. The global nature of their operations further complicates the task, making it difficult to manage information on the various raw materials in their private-label products.

To avoid the financial and reputational damage of costly recalls and large-scale food safety incidents, F&B retailers are increasingly turning to automation solutions. They require real-time risk intelligence on emerging threats to their supply chains and effective ways to update their HACCP plans.

The webinar explored how to streamline these processes by conducting dynamic risk assessments and developing strong risk mitigation strategies, including topics such as:

  • common practices in risk monitoring, risk assessment and risk prevention and HACCP planning for food & beverage retail companies and the biggest challenges that arise
  • the importance of moving from a reactive to a proactive approach in risk management
  • practical use cases of how food & beverage retailers can elevate their risk prevention strategies by deploying predictive analytics and AI to streamline these processes
  • 61% of the webinar’s registrants voted that their biggest challenge is incorporating longer-term forecasted risks in their risk mitigation plans
